Easy Steps To Head Lice Removal

By Frances Keith

Head lice are unfortunately very common which means that most people will catch them at some point, usually as a child. These insects spread by crawling from one person's hair to another's, so it is no surprise they are most common amongst children who often play with their heads touching. Knowing how to deal with head lice removal is therefore important as infestations occur frequently in school children, their friends and families.

Removal can be problematic because re-infestation can occur so quickly if a child's hair makes contact with that of someone who has not been treated. Studies have also found that these insects appear to becoming resistant to some of the chemicals used in lotions. These difficulties can be overcome, however.

Infestations should be taken care of quickly, as left untreated, even one louse will multiply. There are various lotions available to treat this problem. Scientists believe that lice will not become resistant to the newer lotions because instead of relying on insecticides, modern lotions contain silicones and oils, which physically affect the insects making them unable to breathe.

A health-care professional should be consulted before using any lotion, as some lotions are not suitable for everyone. It is particularly important to seek professional advice if treating a baby, pregnant women, an asthmatic, eczema sufferer, someone with cuts to the head, or someone with allergies or sensitive skin.

Instructions need to be followed carefully for optimum results as lotions can vary on how long they should be applied for, for example. Some lotions can be applied at night and washed off in the morning but others should be left on for a much shorter period of time. There are now lotions available that only require one treatment but usually treatment needs to be repeated one week later.

Tying back long hair and putting Afro hair in braids can help prevent re-infestation, as can washing bedding and clothes that have come into contact with the head. Everybody in a family needs treatment, and friends at school and out of school should be told so that their hair can be treated if necessary. Some schools will send out a letter asking parents to check their child's hair if a classmate has this problem, which is a great way to prevent re-infestation.

A natural way to deal with this problem is by wet combing with a fine-toothed comb; these can be purchased at pharmacies. Lots of conditioner needs to be used after washing and rinsing the hair, and the hair is then combed. After every stroke, wiping with tissue paper or rinsing the comb in a container of warm water will remove any pests. It is important not to miss any sections of hair and to repeat every few days until not a single louse is found. This is a good treatment for people sensitive to medicated lotions or desiring a more natural treatment but it is obviously more time consuming, especially for those with lots of thick, long, curly or difficult to comb hair.

Dealing with head lice removal is important because if left untreated the insects will multiply and may cause itchiness and irritation. This problem is incredibly common but the pests can be removed fairly easily if dealt with quickly.

Mesothelioma Still a Dread to Deal With… But Easy to Prevent Cancer!

Though rare, mesothelioma has become a word to dread from. Numerous people till today are becoming victims of asbestos poisoning that leads to this cancer. Though the cancer begins with genetic mutation, in 70 to 80% of people, asbestos plays a major role in development of mesothelioma.

The purpose of this article is to spread awareness regarding the harmful use of asbestos in any type of industries.

It is a substance used in many industries without taking the actual precaution it needs while handling. People working in asbestos mill, shipyard workers, workers in heating and construction industries, are at risk. Asbestos is also used in cement, insulation, breaks, flooring, roof shingles, etc. Asbestos is a group of minerals. They are the masses of strong flexible fibers that can be divided into thin threads and woven. During manufacturing process, the tiny asbestos particles float in the air and may be inhaled or swallowed. The fibers may settle in the lungs or in the stomach, where they can cause irritation and the cancer develops, though the exact mechanism is not known. It can take 20 to 40 years or more, before the symptoms become apparent after asbestos exposure. Also, people living in the houses of asbestos workers are at risk, as the workers may carry asbestos dust on their clothes, hair, etc. Smoking does not appear to increase the risk but a combination of smoking and asbestos exposure significantly raises the chances of air passage cancers.

Are there any other factors besides asbestos?

1)     Minerals like asbestos- Zeolite, a naturally occurring asbestos like mineral is supposed to cause mesothelioma. It is used in countries like Turkey to construct homes.
2)     Family history- as with some other cancers, family history is postulated to increase the risk of mesothelioma. But more research is needed to determine its true role.
3)     Radiation- Some researchers link thorium dioxide to the cancer. It is a radioactive substance used along with the X-rays for the diagnosis of different health conditions. But it is no longer used.
4)     Virus – SV40 is a virus found in monkeys. This virus got in contact with human beings when the monkey cells were used for polio vaccine. It is also stated that this virus can have human-to-human transmission but it is not clear how.

What are the alarming findings of mesothelioma that need to be shown to physician?
(Signs and symptoms of the cancer)-
They depend on the origin of cancer.
1)     If the pleura are involved, the presenting symptoms usually are shortness of breath and chest pain while breathing. Sometimes unusual lumps of tissue can be felt under the chest cage. There can be unexplained cachexia (weight loss) and non-productive cough.
2)     Peritoneal mesothelioma may present with abdominal pain, swelling, change in the bowel habit (unusual constipation or diarrhea), lump felt in the abdomen, etc.
3)     If the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, there may be pain in the affected area, swelling of face and neck region with difficulty in swallowing.
Whatever your signs and symptoms indicate, remember that only a doctor can make a diagnosis of mesothelioma.

Treatment of Mesothelioma-

Modern medicine is still struggling to find absolute cure for mesothelioma or any cancer for that matter. Obviously the baseline therapies like surgery, radiation, chemotherapy etc are opted for depending upon the stage of the cancer. But nowadays doctors emphasize on undergoing clinical trials for patients of Mesothelioma because numerous trials are being carried out in reputed cancer institutes. However the results are uncertain and the process may be excessively expensive.

Considering all the options, many doctors nowadays suggest the alternative therapies like Homeopathy for the dread called Mesothelioma. The homeopaths all over the world are contemplating various possibilities for the treatment of Mesothelioma. Though they do not boast to cure Mesothelioma totally, they do have very good results in terms of alleviation of symptoms of Mesothelioma. The excessive cough, chest pain, and constitutional symptoms like malaise, fever or weakness can be effectively dealt with by different Homeopathic remedies.

One of the definitive treatments in Homeopathy for Mesothelioma is said to be mistletoe therapy. It is an immuno-augmentative therapy in which an herb called Iscador is extracted from mistletoe and administered to the patient in the form of injections or tablets. As the name suggests, the therapy aims at boosting the suppressed immune system and thus giving relief to the troubled patient.

Prevention of Mesothelioma-

Simple use of well-fitting facial mask is sufficient to prevent the dreaded after effects of asbestos handling. Rather, all the employers must take ample precautions to avoid such incidences with their employees. Failing to do this, the employer may have to face stringent justice elicited in the court of law by mesothelioma lawyers. The compensation may cost millions to the employers. It is better to be safe than sorry later!

Tips For An Easy Gluten Free Shopping Online

By Sherry Gross

It is only a given for you to use the Internet when you have something you want to purchase. After all, it is a convenient means for selling, buying, and searching. Whether the item you are looking for is a beauty product or a school supply, the Internet is your best choice for search. You can experience convenience to the limit with this option.

There are many products that a person can purchase over on the Internet. A good example of that is when you want to go for gluten free shopping online. Not only will you be able to get the information on where you can buy the product or place an order for it, you will also know whether that product is a good one or not based on the reviews posted about that product.

It is really a good idea to make use of the Internet when buying something. However, it is also important for a person to remember that there are things that the Internet will not be able to provide you with. While the Internet might have lots of things, there are chances that what you want to have is not sold there.

The merchandises being sold on the Internet are usually cheaper than what it would cost you when you buy in real-life stores. While they are cheap, you should consider checking their quality first. Most of the cheap merchandises these days, whether bought over the Internet or not, usually have a compromised quality when they are cheaper.

It will definitely help you a lot if you can just buy this merchandise from a dealer with a good reputation. Dealers with a good reputation are usually represented by quality merchandises. You can ensure the acquisition of quality merchandises if you rely on the services of dealers with a good reputation in the market.

There are actually a number of methods on the Internet that will allow you to determine whether the seller is a reputable one or not. First of all, just look for reviews, whether on the seller's website or on other websites, that talk about the seller's quality services. If the reviews are mostly positive, then it is a good idea to buy from that seller.

There are those people who also know that visiting the BBB website will help them in this matter. That is true since the BBB is an organization that monitors the consumers and sellers as well as their interactions with each other. You can verify if a company is reputable or not through the help of BBB. When the BBB provides a positive signal, then you can negotiate now with the other party.

It is a given for you to compare prices. This means that you have to look for the prices given by other sellers aside from the one you have your eyes on. You should do some research about the market, check the standard price of the merchandise on the Internet and offline, as well as the seller himself or herself.

Consider the payment. Only pay for a product that you really want to buy. Also, the payment method for that seller should be convenient to you. It should be one that will let you properly protect your finances against cases of fraud.

Building Upper Body Strength the Easy Way

by Nina
Plank Pose
It’s only natural, I guess, that when you start blogging about yoga, your friends are going to ask for your advice, even when you’re on vacation. Luckily for me, I love helping my friends and truly enjoy giving them short private lessons, and seeing their eyes light up when they realize there are some easy yoga solutions to their problems in one of my ideas of FUN.

This time my friend Carol asked me about her right shoulder and wrist, the ones she over-uses when she spends so much time in front of the computer moving her mouse around. She was under the impression that to protect her shoulder and wrist she should not use them very much, even when she was doing yoga. To baby them, in other words. I assured her that, to the contrary, to protect her shoulder and wrist she should be both strengthening and stretching her shoulders, arms, wrists, and hands. Then I gave her a quick private lesson to show her some easy poses she could do on a regular basis.

For her wrists, I showed her the wrist flossing sequence (see Featured Sequence: Wrist Flossing) that is so helpful for preventing carpal tunnel syndrome and other wrists problems. For stretching her shoulders, I showed her a passive backbend over a blanket roll, with her arms overhead and straight, using a strap around her upper arms to make it easier to stay in the pose for around three minutes. I also taught her the doorknob version of Upward Plank pose (Purvottanasana) because she could easily do this in her work place and it’s a nice counter-pose to sitting hunched in front of a computer (see Upward Plank variations). Of course there are many other shoulder stretches, many of which we’ve been covering in our office yoga series (Arm Circles, Eagle pose Arms, Cow-Face pose Arms, etc.).

But what about building upper body strength? I assured her that, no, she didn’t have to do handstands or arm balances, and there were many easy yoga poses that help build upper body strength. Then I quickly ran through a lot of suggestions for her that I thought I share with you today. Hopefully, in the near future, we’ll be able to explore some of these poses in greater depth.

Any pose where you put weight on your arms builds upper body strength, including Cat pose, Downward-Facing Dog, Upward-Facing Dog, Plank pose, Sideways Plank pose (Vasithasana), Upward Plank pose (Purvottanasana), and so on. If you are worried about putting weight on your wrists, you can use a wedge to change the angle of your wrists, do some of the poses with your forearms on the floor instead of just your hands (for example Downward-Facing Dog with forearms on the floor). You can even do Sideways Plank pose standing a few feet away from the wall, with one hand on the wall, your outside leg in Tree pose, and your second out to the side or overhead (I swear, I will take a photo of this one of these days). One of my favorite upper body strengtheners, which I learned from yoga teacher Julie Gudmestad, is to move back and forth, several times, between Downward-Facing Dog and Plank pose.

Also, any pose where you hold your arms up or out to the side builds upper body strength, including Warrior 1, 2, and 3, Tree pose, Triangle pose, Extended Side Angle pose, Half Moon pose, and so on. Do you doubt me? Try keeping your arms in position instead of releasing them as you change from the first side to the second side of Warrior 2 (or any other pose). I bet you’ll find it’s harder than you expected.

There are so many possibilities that I once taught an entire workshop on the subject. Here is the mini practice I sent those students home with:
  1. Cat pose
  2. Downward-Facing Dog pose
  3. Standing Forward Bend
  4. Two Sun Salutations with Plank instead of Chaturanga
  5. Side Plank pose (Vashithasana)
  6. Upward Plank pose (Purvottanasana)
  7. Child's pose
I hope this inspires you to incorporate some upper body strengthening into your home practice!
