Avoidable Negative Effects Of Spirulina Algae

By John Clifford

A well-balanced daily diet should include proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Many nutrition experts are advocating spirulina because it has all of the mentioned nutrition. However like all the world's best diet supplements, spirulina also comes with adverse effects. Yet since it is a natural diet source, there are only a few of the negative effects and more importantly it is preventable.

Patients suffering from anemia will likely feel dizziness, low energy and unexpected food cravings. Undiagnosed patients that feel these symptoms are recommended to see a doctor and get tested for anemia.

A fever could occur caused by the increased protein consumption. The large protein content from spirulina activates the most well-known side effects, one which increases body temperature. This is spurred by the metabolism of the additional protein that is combined with the discharge of heat. The gained heat and the temperature changes could result in fever.

In order for the smooth ingestion and absorption of the supplement, one must drink plenty of water. 16 ounces of water is advised to be consumed with the daily dose of the supplement. Without having the noted amount of water, unwanted effects such as constipation and extreme thirst may occur.

One of the rare side effects is the body breakouts and itchy skin. This is an issue caused by an allergic reaction to the blue green algae. There are only a few reports documenting the side effects. For most users, this should not be a concern.

The most intense unwanted effect that can occur by consuming spirulina is the damage to kidney and liver. This is typically due to the concentration of nucleic acid found in the organic composite where the blue green algae were taken from. Therefore a user is suggested to consider pills coming from blue green algae that contain a small amount of nucleic acid. Choosing a good quality product may help to save the trouble of having a kidney and liver damage.

While the body is digesting and absorbing the high nutrient content of the supplement, it could internally release more gases than usual. In doing so, it could lead to stomach aches. It is recommended to divide the overall daily dosage into small amounts and take it throughout the day in order to avoid this particular side effect.

These are among the most typical spirulina adverse effects. The negative effects described in this article are definitely preventable. Taking the suggested dosage of the supplement is really important in order to use it without any health issue. It is therefore suggested that the maximum daily dose should be less than 3 grams.
